Sometime in the '80s, I was hooked on the tv series, "Alien Nation"? Well, first it was a movie, with James Caan in the lead. Sci-fi, crime story, buddy movie. Really cool. Don't miss it. (Not a 'great' movie, but very entertaining.)

Also try "Diary of a Chambermaid," a French movie about a young woman who becomes a chambermaid in an eccentric household out in the boonies. It is a loving critique, among other things of pre-WW II France, as well as a spoof on the morés of the French haute bourgeoisie believing itself to be upper crust. (Maybe a 'great' movie, trés well done.)
